Solgar Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D3 Tablets Pack of 240

I have been using these tablets for a while now. They are much cheaper here than Holland & Barrett, plus you get them much quicker! They are great for strong bones and are much better than calcium carbonate (which most other brands are). The only downside is that they are a large size and can be hard to swallow, but you get used to taking them. I would totally recommend them.

I love Solgar for a number of reason. They are quality ingredients - no uncessessary rubbish - plus even the packaging is top notch with string glass bottles with metal **** lids that can be recycled when finished. This, like many of their products now, is suitable for vegetarians. However, they're nit suitable for vegan and it looks like the D3 comes from a non vegan source. With a four a day dose here you're getting 60 days worth for under 20 at the moment which is decent enough value. They are fairly easy to swallow being a medium sized pill.

Usually, you would need to take Calcium and vitamin D to treat or prevent osteoporosis so most people who need this would be elderly or would have had or have an Eating Disorder like Anorexia Nervosa. I'm not sure they will be easy to swallow for either of those groups of people. The tablets are huge (see picture) at about 2cm or 1 inch long. They are not scored but they are breakable which makes them much easier to swallow. They are NOT chewable. There are 240 tablets in this bottle but the dose is 4 tablets per day (after a meal) so this is a 60 day supply. They contain decent amounts of calcium and vitamin D although the treatment usually given for osteopaenia or osteoporosis, Osteocare, has 25ug of vitamin D3 per dose while this contains 15ug of D3 per dose. Osteocare has 800mg of calcium/dose while this has 1000mg. Osteocare also has minerals like magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, selenium and boron which are also very important for bone health. This contains none of these. When comparing with Osteocare, I'm comparing it to original Osteocare but there are several versions of Osteocare (including a chewable preparation). Price-wise, these are cheaper than Osteocare and they are good value, but they lack the additional minerals important for bone health. You could buy another vitamin containing them but this would end up costing more overall. Solgar is a reputable company that has made vitamins and supplements for over 70 years so you are likely to actually get what it says it contains. The problem is, Osteocare most likely remains the better product.

The only problem I have is if I take the Recommended daily dosage of 4 tablets per day I will get side affects of the runs. I have sorted out this problem by taking 2 tablets per day and I have no problems then.
